About Department

The Department of Commerce is one of the oldest and reputed departments of the university. The department was established in June 1968, and over a period of time, the Department has started a number of Traditional, Professional, and Certificate Courses, including the Master of Commerce (M.Com), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil), Post Graduate Diploma course, and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from 1972 to 2008. The Commerce Department was one of the pioneer departments of Maharashtra in introducing a “Certified Course in Computer and Data Processing”.

In line with the NEP 2020, the Department has specially designed updated courses to provide quality education in Commerce and Management, preparing students to enter the Industry and establish their presence in a globalized world. The Department has taken the initiative for courses like “Master of Business Administration in International Business” MBA (IB) since 2007-08, considering the market demand. The department has also started a certificate course in NSE – Certified Capital Market Professional (NCCMP), which helps students have knowledge about Stock Markets and Investment Opportunities with the help of SEBI Mumbai. Starting from June 2024-25, a one-year P.G. Diploma Course in “Goods & Service Tax” (GST) has been initiated with the objective of providing students with employment opportunities.

History

The Department of Commerce is one of the oldest and major Departments of this University. It was inaugurated in the year 1968 with three faculty members. In the year 1972, an MBA course was started with an intake capacity of 20 students. Over a period of time, the department has instituted a number of professional and vocational postgraduate and diploma courses like DCP & SA and Certificate courses in Computers. At present, the department has four Courses viz. M.Com., M.Phil. (Commerce/Management Science), M.I.B., and D.B.M. course. In the year 1997, the Department of Management Science was set up, and the MBA course was transferred to the Department of Management Science.

The department, keeping in view the changing needs, has been organizing workshops, seminars, and other research programs for the benefit of the teaching fraternity in the affiliated colleges, as well as for teachers and students in the Department.

Up till now, 23 refresher courses in commerce and management science have been conducted, and more than 1050 college teachers have benefited from the courses. In the field of research, a number of major research projects sponsored by UGC, ICSSR, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Banks, and other Agencies were carried out and completed successfully by the faculty members.

As a part of the text development activity of the department, the faculty members have published more than 600 research articles in professional journals and magazines. In the field of textbook writing and publications, the faculty of the department has shown keen interest in writing more than 150 books on various subjects, which are acclaimed as of high academic standards. Most of the faculty members are associated with the book production program of the Yeshwantrao Chavan Open University, Nasik, and Maharashtra state.

Greetings from the Department of Commerce, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University to all Students, Teachers, and Stakeholders.

The department was established in 1968 and has a rich history and tradition of academic excellence. Over the years, the department has introduced numerous professional, vocational, and post-graduate courses, including the Master of Commerce (M.Com), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil), and Master of Business Administration (MBA).

In response to the growing demands of the global marketplace, the department introduced the Master of Business Administration in International Business (MBA-IB) in 2007-08. This program has been specially designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of international trade and commerce.

The Department has taken proactive steps to align with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). The various short duration courses offered include the NSE Certified Capital Market Professional (NCCMP) course, developed in collaboration with SEBI, Mumbai, and a one-year P.G. Diploma Course in Goods and Service Tax (GST) in June 2024, designed to address the growing need for professionals with expertise in tax regulations, ensuring immediate employability. Furthermore, the Department focuses on continuous research and development activity through International Conferences, Workshops, & Seminars.

The department has faculty members with diverse specializations and qualifications with extensive domestic and international experience. The students are supported with various national scholarships, fellowships, and earn and learn schemes to fulfill their desire for education.

Our department's contribution extends beyond academia, with an illustrious network of alumni who have excelled in various fields. The department's distinguished alumni include Vice-Chancellors, Teachers, Politicians, Entrepreneurs, Social Workers, and professionals in State, Central, and Corporate sectors.

  • In response to the advertisement for registration (in newspapers and the University Website in the last week of May), interested students will have to register themselves.
  • A duly filled Application Form (available on the University website) should be filled in the prescribed format and submitted to the DDUKK office.
  • Admission will be done based on the performance of students at the Common Entrance Test (CET). The number of students called for the written test may be finalized on a merit basis if the number of applications is high. The Entrance test will be conducted in June every year.
  • Selected candidates will have to go through the MKCL registration process.
  1. Procedure for Registration: Interested candidates are required to fill in the online registration form provided on http://bamua.digitaluniversity.ac and submit the printout of the filled-in form along with the necessary attested documents & the prescribed fees to the department.
  2. Original and/or Attested copies of the following documents are essential at the time of admission of M.A psychology, P.G. Diploma in Psychological Counseling, Certificate course in psychological counseling:
    • Photo ID proof as per Govt. of India norms (Voter Id /Aadhar card/Driving License)
    • SSC (High School) Board Certificate as proof of date of birth

Eligibility

Master of Commerce Eligibility criteria
  1. A Candidate shall be admitted to the First Year (Semester-I) Course for the Master’s degree in the Faculty of Commerce provided that he/she has passed the Bachelor’s Degree examination in the Faculty of Commerce & Management of this University or any other University recognized as equivalent thereto with compulsory English as one of the passing subjects. The condition of passing the bachelor’s degree examination with compulsory English shall not apply to a candidate migrating from the jurisdiction of a University in the State of Maharashtra if he seeks admission to a postgraduate Course of this University.
  2. A common Entrance Test (CET) will be conducted by the respective department of the University (The schedule and other details of CET will be declared separately.) The merit list for admission to the postgraduate course will be prepared by the university departments. It will be based on the marks secured in the CET and the marks secured in the respective optional subject during the third or final year of their degree course (50% weightage will be given to the CET marks and the remaining 50% to the marks obtained in the relevant subject during the final year of the degree program.)
Master of Business Administration (International Business) Eligibility criteria
  1. A Candidate who has completed a bachelor’s degree of any faculty of this university or any other university recognized as equivalent to a degree of this university in any faculty shall be eligible for the MBA (IB) course.
  2. A candidate who has passed the BBA Bachelor Degree Examination of this University or from any other University or any other course equivalent thereto shall be eligible to take admission to the first semester of the M.B.A (I.B).
  3. A common Entrance Test (CET) will be conducted by the respective department of the University (The schedule and other details of CET will be declared separately.) Facility for son/daughter/ward of Secondary Teacher (S.S.T.)

Candidates who are son/daughter/ward of Secondary Teachers & seeking the tuition fees facility should submit their application to the concerned departments. The forms should be carefully filled in. It should be complete in all respects.

Facility for son/daughter/ward of Ex-serviceman/Freedom Fighter

Candidates who are son/daughter/ward of Ex-serviceman/Freedom Fighter and seeking the tuition fees facility should submit their application signed with the seal of the District Ex-serviceman Welfare Board to the concerned department. The forms should be carefully filled in and complete in all respects. Application for BBC facility must be submitted before the last date in the concerned departments. Applications received after the last date will not be entertained.

Schedule of application procedure for candidates of E.B.C., P.S.T., S.S.T. and Ex-Serviceman

Will be communicated to Departments through circular by P.G. section. EBC, PST, SST facility for non-granted courses is subject to the decision of the Government Authority.

Scholarship Govt. of India Scholarship (G.O.I.)

The Government of India (G.O.I.) gives scholarships for students belonging to the reserved categories. The online application form in the proper format and supported by the following documents must be submitted to the Post-Graduate Section (Admission Unit) before the last date. Applications received after the last date will not be entertained under any condition. AADHAR CARD No. is compulsory for Scholarship holder students. Management Quota Students are not eligible for GOI and Freeship Scholarship (Ex. MBA. MCA. B.Tech. Students of Management Quota are not eligible for this facility.)

  • A. New scholarship application form with a passport-size photograph of the student must be duly signed by the competent authority.
  • B. Application for scholarship forms must be submitted with attested copies of the following documents:
    • Transfer Certificate (Photocopy of original T.C.)
    • Caste Certificate
    • Income Certificate of the father/guardian (original) (issued by the Executive Magistrate)
    • Attested Copy of Death Certificate in case of death of the father.
    • March Salary Certificate of parents in case of service.
    • Photocopy of Mark Memo.
    • Certificate from hostel in case of student staying at hostel.
    • Income Certificate of the husband must be given in case of a married girl student.
    • District change certificate must be given in case of a student coming from another district.
  • In case of Duplicate T.C., no concession/scholarship will be given. Such students will have to pay full fees.
  • Scholarship will be issued to the students who have fulfilled 75% attendance.
  • The income of the guardian of the student should be less than the limit declared by the Govt. from time to time.
  • The caste of the student (Schedule caste, Schedule Tribe, Nomadic and Denotified Tribe, Other Backward Special Backward Categories) must be included in the list as per the govt. policy for reservation.
  • Students or parents of students belonging to Erstwhile Schedule Caste who have later converted to the Buddhist religion (Buddhism) are entitled to obtain a scholarship.
  • Candidates applied for the vocational courses can obtain a scholarship whether they passed or failed in the course (Degree/Diploma) from Arts, Commerce, and Science faculty. But such students cannot further change their course.
  • Candidates who have once accepted a scholarship for a vocational course are not allowed to get a scholarship for the next vocational course.
  • Candidates working in full-time jobs are not eligible for a scholarship. But the candidate learning on leave without salary will be eligible for a scholarship.
  • Scholarship will not be given to more than two children in the same family. (This condition is not applicable in the case of girls) (The third child will not get the scholarship.) (Exception: If the second child is twins or more than two, consider as one unit.)
  • Candidates should fill out a new application form for a scholarship in case of his/her first admission. Second-year candidates do process as directed by the Social Welfare office. A new application form should be filled in case of any gap.
Important notes about scholarships/Fellowships
  • Exam appearance is compulsory for GOI, Freeship, EBC, PST, SST, Ex-Serviceman, Freedom fighter, and other scholarship facility holders. Otherwise, the student must pay total tuition fees.
  • Scholarship facility is not for Certificate, Diploma courses.
  • In some scholarships, Tuition Fees are not transferred to the university/college account. Students must pay their tuition fees. (for ex. Minority Scholarship, Handicapped Scholarship, etc.)
About Other Scholarships
  • 1. Vidyavetan Facility:
    • Application forms should be submitted in the P.G. Section within the period of 15 days after completing admission. A Govt. Hostel Certificate is necessary to fulfill this form.
    • This facility is only for SC, ST, DNT students who have completed their admission for professional Courses. ST Students must attach an attested caste validity certificate with the scholarship form, and if the Student is living in a hostel, then he must furnish a Hostel Certificate.
  • 2. Important Note about Scholarship:
    • A candidate is not eligible for GOI, EBC, PST, SST, Freedom fighter, or any governmental scholarship if he/she does not attend the exam and will have to pay full fees.
    • Governmental Scholarships are not given for Diploma/Certificate Courses.
  • 3. Other Scholarships:
    • Candidates of the University campus can get the following scholarships by the Govt. of Maharashtra and University as stated below:
  • 4. Eklavya Scholarship:
    • This Scholarship will be given to the candidate who has secured 60% marks in Degree Exams in the Art Faculty and 70% Marks in the Science Faculty Degree Examination. After submitting the application form in the proper format, the Eklavya Scholarship will be approved by the Director of Higher Education. Govt. of Maharashtra. Pune. The Annual Income of the parents of an applicant must be as prescribed by the Government.
  • 5. University Merit Scholarship:
    • After completing the admission procedure of the University, Scholarships will be granted to the applied candidates ranking 1st and 2nd as per merit in each subject. Three candidates of M.Phil. can get this Scholarship as per the merit list in each subject.
  • 6. Post Matriculation Scholarship:
    • Post Matriculation Scholarship for students belonging to Minority communities. The students belonging to the Minority communities (Muslim, Parsi, Sikh, Christian, Buddha, Jain) learning in the university.
  • 7. Scholarship for Non-Hindi Language Speakers:
    • Non-Hindi Language speakers, who are studying in the Hindi language, could submit their applications in the proper format for Scholarships for Non-Hindi language speakers. Scholarships for Non-Hindi Language speakers will be given to four candidates only.
The scholarship holders of any kind are supposed to abide by the following rules:
  • The candidate will get only one scholarship at a time. Legal action will be taken against a candidate accepting two scholarships at a time. Students must furnish the form in the Hindi Department.
  • It is mandatory to submit the application form for a scholarship within the stipulated time.
  • The amount of the scholarship will be given only after its approval and acceptance of the amount of the scholarship by the University.

Research Activity

The research activities are concerned with 164 candidates who have obtained Ph.D. in Commerce/Management, and 264 students who have obtained an M.Phil degree in Commerce. At present, there are three research guides in the department. A number of college teachers have availed themselves of the UGC award of teacher fellowships for the completion of their research work in commerce and management.
