About Department

The Department of Geography works to derive a better understanding of our planet, the resources that support society and the challenge of sustainability. We use a variety of methods and tools to address our research questions, including field work, laboratory and experimental studies, and computer modeling. The Department of Geography is one of the important Department established by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Aurangabad. It is offering post graduate degrees in GEOGRAPHY . The Department of Geography is committed to educating a new generation of scholars who will reflect the diversity of intellectual perspectives, life experiences, and cultural backgrounds represented in society today.

Department insights

History

The Department of Geography was started in June 2009-2010 Academic year by our university. There was a long pending demand for this course to be introduced in this university. The resolution was passed on 18th May 2009 to start M.A. Geography in the meeting of management council under the chairmanship of former Honorable vice chancellor Dr. Nagnath Kottapalle. Dr. Keshav Ukey the former co-ordinator of Department of Geography. Mannerly Dr. Madan Suryawanshi is a first full time Teaching faculty member of Department of Geography. Dr. Madan Suryawanshi had taken responsibility of Head of Department of Geography from June 2014. In the scenario of achievement of Department of Geography having 16 research students with awarded national level and university fellowships.

To structure The Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University to be an Epitome of Excellence by creating and imparting time responsive Quality Education to address Changing Scenario, keeping Research and Development at its core, for ‘Anyone’ at ‘Anytime’ and ‘Anywhere’.

Mission

To lead the development of academic, educational, and research directions of human and natural systems, Urban and Rural Problems and geospatial information science, harnessing the integrative nature of geographic science to answer fundamental questions of global importance.

Ph.D.(Geography)

Course Structure
Ph.D. Geography:

The admission for PhD is through PET Examination and as per the University rule. Seats are allocated as per the available Guide’s quota.

Admissions

The intake capacity for admission is 40 students. Admission is given on the basis of marks obtained in B.A. Examination or B.SC. Exam. Especially in the subject of Geography and as per the rules of Government of Maharashtra and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. There is possibility to arrange pre-admission test if the application forms exceeds the limit of seat of admissions

Eligibility

Eligibility For M.A. Geography:

First Preference- He / She must have passed the Bachelor’s Degree examination in the concerned faculty of this University or an Examination of other University recognized as equivalent thereto. However, the candidate seeking admission in a subject at M.A. should have studied the same subject at his Bachelor’s Degree level.

A candidate who has passed the B. Sc. Examination with Geography as one of the optional Subjects may be held eligible for the optional subject and may be eligible for admission to the M. A. Geography course.

OR

Second Preference- Any UG Degree holder from any faculty can get admission by completing Concern subjects’ 6 months short-term or bridge Course or fundamental course in the department.

Horizontal Reservation-

A) 5% seats will be reserved at each place of learning for the person with specially-abled (P.W.D.) students as per the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, Act No. 49 of 2016. The candidates claiming reservation under this category shall submit the certificates strictly as per the prescribed Proforma.

B) 5% seats will be reserved for Ex-Serviceman/Military personnel or their wards as per Govt. Resolution no. TCM 1204(167/85)

Vertical Reservation-

Department of Geography have well established Computer laboratory, one Laptop, Sound System, L.C.D. Projector C.D’s professional Remote weather station. Maps and atlases, Profiles, Charts, practical instruments are the learning sources in the Department. Modern teaching methods are applied to understand the subject of Geography. G.I.S. for accurate map system and G.P.S. to understand Global positions are being practiced. C.D. of topographical maps and other Geographical topics are also used as the teaching methods. A Laboratory room and two class rooms are available and One Auditorium, research laboratory including one medium size rooms for the staff members.


Departmental Library:

Geography Department has started departmental Library. In this library different types of books and Ph. D. Thesis are available.
