NAAC Re-accredited with grade
Since India achieved independence, the nation has made significant strides in progress and development. Over these years, considerable efforts have been directed towards rebuilding society and rectifying imbalances that had historically skewed the social structure. However, given the ongoing task of nation-building, continuous endeavors in this direction remain essential. Amidst the multitude of efforts at various levels, a modest contribution could involve reviving the legacy of the founding fathers of modern India and revisiting their thoughts on social, political, and national development. Despite condemning societal divisions based on religion, caste, and region, the reality is that forces aiming to create disharmony and division persist. Therefore, a strong resistance to these forces is necessary, not only publicly but also within our own minds and hearts. The establishment of the Maulana Azad Chair at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, under the sponsorship of the UGC, represents a small step in this direction.
The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Chair aims to promote the social, political, and cultural ideas of Maulana Azad. Azad was a prominent leader in the nationalist movement who wholeheartedly championed the cause of Hindu-Muslim unity, as well as secularism and socialism. Studying Azad's ideas holds significant relevance in the current context, especially as the country navigates the uncharted path of globalization. Such study is also crucial due to Azad's wide-ranging concerns beyond politics. A distinguished religious scholar who authored a commentary on the Holy Quran, he was also a poet, journalist, essayist, and orator, embodying a multifaceted personality. The Azad Chair provides students and research scholars with a platform to explore the ideas of this versatile figure and potentially utilize them as a resource for building the nation and society.
Extension Services
One of the basic objectives of this Chair is to reach out to the society, especially teachers and students coming from different segments. With this in mind, a seminar on Azad's social and political views was organised in collaboration with Aurangabad Municipal Corporation in 2011. Teachers and students from different colleges and schools with different mediums of instruction (Marathi, English, Urdu, and Hindi) participated in the seminar. Aurangabad Municipal Corporation played a proactive role in the seminar by taking several important initiatives, like issuing special notices to government and corporation schools asking their teachers to attend the seminar. As a result, a large number of participants were present. Professors and experts from various disciplines and languages (Marathi, English, Urdu, and Hindi) delivered lectures on the occasion. Scholarly papers were presented on different dimensions of Azad's personality and his socio-political and cultural views. Participants were given certificates of presentation and participation.
