Earn & Learn Scheme

General Information: Earn and Learn Scheme Form

With a view to providing some financial assistance to poor and needy post-graduate students in various P.G. University Departments who wish to pursue P.G. education but are unable to due to their financial circumstances, the university has been implementing the 'Earn and Learn Scheme' for a long time. Initially, this scheme had a limited scope of funds as the university started it using its own financial resources. However, over time, it has significantly expanded. This scheme gained momentum, especially after the university's name was changed to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University.

The university prepared an action plan to undertake different schemes and projects. From a special grant received, the goal was to make the Earn & Learn scheme self-sufficient for future years. Various activities and projects were developed and are being implemented very successfully, generating considerable financial income. Currently, 417 P.G., M.Phil., and Ph.D. students are part of the scheme, including 90 girls. Forty M.Phil. and Ph.D. students receive ₹1000 per month for assisting with office work in different university sections. Students working in Earn and Learn earn ₹20 per day for two hours of work.

The following activities and projects are in place:
  • Horticulture Programme: Under this program, we have a 10-acre farm with Mango, Guava, Jamul, and Tamarind trees. Recently, we expanded the horticulture area under the National Horticulture Board Program and cultivated Awla, Custard Apple, and Tamarind on 33 acres.
  • File Making & Screen Printing Centre: In 1994, the university established a File Making Center after receiving a special grant of ₹10 lakh from the State Government as part of the "Namvistar" package. This center provides training to students in making pads, files, folders, envelopes, etc. These centers supply the necessary stationery to different university sections.
  • STD PCO & Xerox Center: The university started a Xerox Center under the scheme in February 1927. This center is managed by students from the Earn and Learn Scheme. Last year, we started three more such centers on campus for students, university employees, and others visiting the campus for official work. The total income from STD and PCO in 2003-2004 was ₹3,18,068, and in 2012-13, it was ₹3,20,018.
  • Sericulture & Vermicompost Scheme: This year, we started this unit by erecting two low-cost sheds to produce vermicompost. Up to the end of November 2005, we produced about 10 tons of vermicompost, which was used in the cultivation of the horticulture program.
