Introduction
The idea of starting a scheme of coaching classes for under-privileged sections of society was conveyed by the University Grants Commission in pursuance of the Government’s policy of bringing socially and educationally backward sections on par with the rest of the society and to make them participate fully in the activities of national development. Accordingly, the Centre was established in 1981for providing coaching classes for competitive examinations for students belonging SC & ST to get gainful employment in Central and other services.
In order to meet the objectives as defined above and in pursuance of its mandate, the Pre-IAS/NET/SET Coaching Centre runs free coaching programmes for aspirants belonging to SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer) and minority communities who wish to prepare themselves and compete for a variety of jobs, both academic and administrative, at centre and state level. The funding for the Centre is available from the University Grants Commission
The Centre draws upon qualified faculty with professional orientation to meet the requirements of the coaching programmes. Students are selected for coaching on the basis of an entrance test conducted for the purpose, and they are offered classroom teaching, which is supplemented and strengthened by periodic tests and evaluation. The Centre has well-furnished library with important books on variety of subjects which are updated at regular intervals to facilitate students access to current and relevant material available in the required areas. The Centre has wi-fi enabled campus.
