Department of Chemical Technology

About Department

In 1994, the Marathwada University was renamed as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University; on this occasion the Govt. of Maharashtra allotted special funds for the development of this department. In 1997, the committee of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi visited this department and suggested to convert the B.Sc.Chem. Tech. course into Bachelor of Chemical Technology course for students passing 12th standard. Keeping in view the needs of Marathwada region, the department has started B.Tech (Chem.) Course in the two specialization in Chemical Technology i.e. Pharmaceutical & Fine Chemical Technology and Food Technology.

  • First Department on Campus to achieve the NBA Accreditation for B.Tech. (Chemical) Program.
  • First Department on Campus having UG, PG, and Ph.D. Programs in Technology.
  • First Department on the campus with an ISO 9001:2008 certification.
  • First Department to establish Ultra-Modern Modular Labs as per GLP.
  • First Department to establish Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility (SAIF).
  • DST-FIST Supported Department.
  • Department having a well-equipped Food Processing Laboratory & Pilot Plant.
  • Unique course in Drugs & Pharmaceuticals in the Country.
  • MoU with leading Industries and Premium National Research Institutes.

Department insights

History

In late sixties, the Marathwada University has felt the need to establish a department of Chemical Technology. At the time of its decimal celebration the University appointed a committee and a development fund was raised for this purpose. In the year 1989, the University established the department with one specialization i.e., B.Sc. (Tech.) in Pharmaceuticals and Fine Chemical Technology with the objective to meet the needs of skilled personnel for the pharmaceutical industries in the region as well as the state of Maharashtra and also to generate self-employment of the student seeking B.Sc. (Tech.) Degree. Most of the passed-out Students have good position in the reputed industries.
