About Department

The Department of Sanskrit at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, came into existence in the year 1972. Since its inception, numerous students have graduated from the department and have achieved distinction in various fields. Esteemed scholars of Sanskrit, including Dr. G.M.Patil, Dr. Vasant Patil, Dr. Moghe, Dr. Sulabha Bapat, and Dr. Ashok Vatkar, have guided the department from its early days. Consequently, the Department has cultivated a remarkably rich academic heritage.

In 2005, the Sanskrit Department relocated to the main campus of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Aurangabad. The campus's natural beauty and lush greenery offer an ideal environment for the academic endeavors of the students. Furthermore, the department adopted the semester system in 2005, enabling continuous evaluation and assessment of student performance.

History

The Department of Sanskrit, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, was established in the year 1972. In August 2005, the University appointed a full time teacher in the Sanskrit department for the first time & shifted it to the University campus. Earlier the post graduate department of Sanskrit was conducted by colleges attached to the University.

To structure the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University to be an Epitome of Excellence by creating and imparting time-responsive Quality Education to address the Changing Scenario, keeping Research and Development at its core, for 'Anyone' at 'Anytime' and 'Anywhere'.

Mission

The mission of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University's Department of Sanskrit is to enhance and improve the imparting of knowledge in Sanskrit, exploring new paths at the frontiers of knowledge in Sanskrit studies, to act as a bridge between India's glorious past and the promise of its bright future and contribute to the moral, cultural, and social progress of society.

    Objectives

    Consistent with the educational philosophy of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, the Department of Sanskrit believes that the aim of Sanskrit education is to develop a student into a person who can think and act critically and consistently towards the pursuit of knowledge. We aim to inculcate in our students a strength of conviction and intellectual honesty. We recognize that to prepare a student for a career in Sanskrit studies involves the development of a special bent of mind and perspective.

    The particular objectives of the Department of Sanskrit are:
    • To guide and assist students in the pursuit of knowledge in various disciplines in Sanskrit Language and Literature.
    • To awaken students to their rich cultural, moral, literary, and scientific heritage and to spur them to make their own contribution in preserving and enhancing it.
    • To develop the intellectual faculties of students by inculcating analytical abilities and capabilities for sound research.
    • To produce quality research in Sanskrit language and literature.

Program Educational Objectives:

The program educational objectives (PEO) are the statement that describes the career and professional achievement after the program of studies (graduation/ postgraduation). The PEO s are driven form question no. (ii) of the Mission statement ( What is the purpose of organization). The PEOs can be minimum three and maximum five.

PE01:In-depth& knowledge language, grammar, literature application these philosophies/techniques in the field of linguistic and societal development.

PEO2: To provide the professional services to private and public organization through competitive examination (NET/SET/MPSC/UPSC/ETC)

PEO3: To provide expertise and consultancy services in the private and public sector and to be an entrepreneur/professional consultant.

PEO4: To opt for higher education, research and to be a life-long learner. PEO5: To provide value based and ethical leadership to the profession and social life.

Program Outcomes:

The program outcomes (PO) are the statement of competencies/ abilities. POs are the statement that describes the knowledge and the abilities the graduate/ post-graduate will have by the end of program studies.

  1. Demonstrate mastery of the Sanskrit language discipline by detailing the development and current practices of literary studies, rhetoric, grammar and theme.
  2. Demonstrate mastery of the discipline by characterizing, instantiating, and critiquing the dominant critical theories, methodologies, and practices in the field inclusive of comparative linguistic methodology.
  3. Conduct research that leads to a substantial original thesis based on the literature as well as based on Values of Ethics and Morality capable of providing right grooming.
  4. Demonstrate Sanskrit language skills to read, write, speak and translate.
  5. Demonstrate values and ethics in all activities.

Facility for son / daughter / ward of Secondary Teacher (S.S.T.)

Candidates who are son / daughter / ward of Secondary Teachers & seeking the tuition fees facility should submit their application to the concerned departments. The forms should be carefully filled in and complete in all respects.

Facility for son / daughter / ward of Ex-serviceman / Freedom Fighter

Candidates who are son / daughter / ward of Ex-serviceman / Freedom Fighter and seeking the tuition fees facility should submit their application signed with the seal of the District Ex-serviceman Welfare Board to the concerned department. The forms should be carefully filled in and complete in all respects. Application for BBC facility must be submitted before the last date in the concerned departments. Applications received after the last date will not be entertained. The schedule for the application procedure for candidates of E.B.C., P.S.T., S.S.T., and Ex-Serviceman will be communicated to Departments through circular by the P.G. section EBC, PST, SST. The facility for non-granted courses is subject to the decision of the Government Authority.

Scholarship Govt. of India Scholarship (G.O.I.)

The Government of India (G.O.I.) provides scholarships for students belonging to the reserved categories. An online application form in the proper format, supported by the following documents, must be submitted to the Post-Graduate Section (Admission Unit) before the last date. Applications received after the last date will not be entertained under any circumstances. AADHAR CARD No. is mandatory for scholarship holders. Management Quota Students are not eligible for GOI and Freeship Scholarship (e.g., MBA, MCA, B.Tech. Students admitted through Management Quota are not eligible for this facility).

  1. A new scholarship application form with a passport-size photograph of the student must be duly signed by the competent authority.
  2. Application forms for scholarships must be submitted with attested copies of the following documents:
    • Transfer Certificate (Photocopy of original T.C.)
    • Caste Certificate
    • Income Certificate of the father/guardian (original) (issued by the Executive Magistrate)
    • Attested Copy of Death Certificate in case of the father's demise.
    • March Salary Certificate of parents if employed.
    • Photocopy of Mark Memo.
    • Certificate from the hostel if the student is residing there.
    • Income Certificate of the husband must be provided in the case of a married female student.
    • District change certificate must be provided if the student is from another district.

In case of a Duplicate T.C., no concession or scholarship will be given. Such students will have to pay full fees.

Scholarships will be issued only to students who have fulfilled 75% attendance.

The annual income of the student's guardian should be below the limit set by the Government from time to time.

The student's caste (Schedule caste, Schedule Tribe, Nomadic and De-notified Tribe, Other Backward Classes, Special Backward Categories) must be included in the list as per the government's reservation policy.

Students or parents of students belonging to the Erstwhile Schedule Caste who have converted to Buddhist religion (Buddhism) are eligible for obtaining scholarships.

Candidates who applied for vocational courses can obtain scholarships regardless of whether they passed or failed their previous Degree/Diploma in Arts, Commerce, or Science. However, such students cannot change their course subsequently.

Candidates who have once received a scholarship for a vocational course are not eligible for a scholarship for another vocational course.

Candidates employed full-time are not eligible for scholarships. However, candidates on leave without salary are eligible.

Scholarships will not be granted to more than two children in the same family (This condition does not apply to girls; the third child will not receive a scholarship. Exception: If the second child is twins or more, they will be considered as one unit).

Candidates must fill out a new application form for the scholarship upon their first admission. Second-year candidates should follow the process directed by the Social Welfare Office. A new application form should be filled out in case of any academic gap.

Important notes about scholarships /Fellowships

Exam appearance is mandatory for GOI, Freeship, EBC, PST, SST, Ex-Serviceman, Freedom fighter, and other scholarship facility holders. Otherwise, students must pay the total tuition fees.

Scholarship facilities are not available for Certificate and Diploma courses.

For some scholarships, tuition fees are not directly transferred to the university/college account. Students must pay their tuition fees (e.g., Minority Scholarship, Handicapped Scholarship, etc.).

About Other Scholarships:
  1. Vidyavetan Facility:

    Application forms should be submitted to the P.G. Section within 15 days after completing admission. A Government Hostel Certificate is necessary to complete this form. This facility is only for SC, ST, DNT students who have completed their admission for professional Courses. ST Students must attach an attested caste validity certificate with the scholarship form, and if the student is living in a hostel, they must furnish a Hostel Certificate.

  2. Important Note about Scholarship:

    Candidates are not eligible for GOI, EBC, PST, SST, Freedom fighter, or any governmental scholarship if they do not attend the exam and will have to pay full fees. Governmental Scholarships are not given for Diploma/Certificate Courses.

  3. Other Scholarships:

    Candidates of the University campus can get the following scholarships from the Government of Maharashtra and the University as stated below:

  4. Eklavya Scholarship:

    This Scholarship will be given to candidates who have secured 60% marks in Degree Exams in the Arts Faculty and 70% Marks in Science Faculty Degree Examination. After submitting the application form in the proper format, the Eklavya Scholarship will be approved by the Director of Higher Education, Govt. of Maharashtra, Pune. The annual income of the parents of an applicant must be within the limit prescribed by the Government.

  5. University Merit Scholarship:

    After completing the admission procedure, the University Scholarship will be granted to the top two applied candidates based on merit in each subject. Three candidates of M.Phil. can get this Scholarship as per the merit list in each subject.

  6. Post Matriculation Scholarship:

    Post Matriculation Scholarship for students belonging to Minority communities (Muslim, Parsi, Sikh, Christian, Buddha, Jain) learning in the university.

  7. Scholarship for Non-Hindi Language Speakers:

    Non-Hindi Language speakers who are studying in the Hindi language can submit their applications in the proper format for the Scholarship for Non-Hindi language speakers. This scholarship will be given to four candidates only. Candidates holding any kind of scholarship are supposed to abide by the following rules:

    • Candidates will receive only one scholarship at a time. Legal action will be taken against candidates accepting two scholarships simultaneously. Students must furnish the form in the Hindi Department.
    • It is mandatory to submit the application form for the scholarship within the stipulated time.
    • The scholarship amount will be disbursed only after its approval and acceptance of the amount by the University.
