About Department

Well known old Dept. in the University having glorious history earlier . Renowed creative writers, critics and Scholors taught in this dept. The same tradition is followed by the present faculty.

Department is working in ‘Non-vacational Academic Mode,Department runs various community based program as follows.Village adoption program .Extension center program at sixty college.Student counseling, carrier guidance program at sixty Colleges,Extension training program, This department works for three pillars of higher education suggested by UGC TEACHING RESEARCH and EXTENSION

History

The Department of Marathi Language & Literature is one of the prominent Departments on the campus that has earned eminence, respect and prestige for the University. The Department has had a cherish –able tradition of excellence in scholarship. Senior Professors and Heads of the department have substantially contributed to the building up of liberal educational environment within the region. The department of Marathi founded in 1959. Prof. W.L. Kulkarni, the renowned Marathi Critic was the first Head of Dept. Dr. Y. M. Pathan, Dr. Sudhir Rasal, Dr. S.S. Bhosale, Dr.Gangadhar Pantavane, Dr. Sudam Jadhav, Dr. Sharad Wyavhare, Prof. Balkrushna Kavthekar, Prof. Datta Bhagat, Dr. Bhagwan Thakur, Dr. P.G. Lulekar, Dr. P.L. Gimekar, Dr. Satish Badwe, Dr. Ashok Deshmane were the Head of the department. At present Prof. Dasoo Vaidya is shouldering the responsibility as Head form 2020.
