Department of Fine Arts

About Department

The Department of Fine Art of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University is the youngest department, established on the University campus from the academic year 2005-06. The department was opened with the sole aim to impart qualitative art education under the University system in the backward region of Marathwada in the state of Maharashtra. One of the main concerns of the department is to inculcate multiple visual thinking processes among the art students who pursue post-graduation in fine art and to advocate visual culture in the artisan guild community in the region who laboriously carved the great art historical world-famous monuments of Ajanta and Ellora. Taking cue from this past tradition, it is imperative to have an advanced educational department under the University education system.

Aurangabad city is an international place in the state of Maharashtra after its capital, Mumbai. The place has its own importance on the cultural map of the country. It is fast emerging as a commercial hub in the region as well as in the state of Maharashtra. Thus, considering the future needs in the emerging commercial hub and offering greater employment opportunities for the young minds of the Marathwada region in the field of Fine Art and advertisement, the Department proposes to introduce several new full-fledged post-graduation and bridge courses. It is aimed not only to enhance academic growth but also to equip the students to have greater job opportunities in the newly emerging market economy.
